Text Discussion with a Sweet Friend
” John 12:25… Such a powerful verse. How can we maintain a mindset that is more focused on that which is of eternal value?”
“Very convicting! We do tend to love our lives on earth more than we should. I have trouble with this. Yesterday I was complaining about having some baby weight left to lose and Ethan said,”Babe, stop. That doesn’t matter to God. Not...

amotherisborn:
I really enjoyed this essay at Atlantic by Jody Peltason, a mother recalling her firstborn’s early weeks. The essay is based on her own journal entry titled, “Before I Forget.” In it, she recounted how awful, frightened and generally lousy she felt soon after her child’s birth, and how…
“Here, here,” she says in exhaustion.

Being alone with the baby most of these first few weeks while Ethan works night shift is giving me a new appreciation for single moms. I pray that God would sustain each of them with supernatural grace during every difficult hour.

Reflecting on all that God has given me lately, I felt overwhelmed.
“Elizabeth. Can’t I give you good things? “
“Yes, God. But why do You give so much?”
“Because I love you. “
“But why?”
“Because of Christ. “
Grateful.
After posting the same verse last night, I received the following text from my Dad:
Scripture thought for the day:”Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 6 & 7. Trusting for...

“God, strengthen my faith.”
“I am, child. But faith is a shield. You must put down your other weapons to pick it up.”
So I repent: of pride, of rationalization, of bargaining, of “trying harder”. Only God can heal. Only He can give faith. I need Him desperately… and I hope I never forget that again.
It is a safe thing to trust Him to fulfill the desires which He creates.

Amen.

Pep Talk To Self
Every once in a while, it becomes necessary to come before God’s throne, pleading for grace. We need grace not only for ourselves, but also for strength to forgive those who have wronged us.
Is there a person whose very name or face makes you cringe (as if awaiting a blow to the face)? A person who has made you cry tears of shame over things you never actually did wrong? This is a...

Thought: It seems like failure is scrawled all over my life.
The issue with this thought is that God does not speak this way. He speaks words of encouragement, love, and HOPE. Discouragement, by definition, is the loss of hope. If you have Him, there is ALWAYS hope.
I was talking to someone about this on Tuesday. The problem with failure is that it turns our eyes to...

“Our world needs resilient adults, not fragile ones.”
“God. Thank You. You are so good.” “Yes… I AM.”
Grateful that He is the same through the ages, and that sameness is good.

“The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, ‘If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost… But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!’” -Numbers 11:4-6

Things I learned from two days on the couch:
1. There is an infinitely better way to dice an onion than the method I have been using.
2. I don’t agree with 90% of the theology propogated on Christian television.
3. An impossible situation shows which Christians have genuine, mountain moving faith and which are willing to settle for a good performance based on what can be accomplished...
