Reflecting on all that God has given me lately, I felt overwhelmed.
“Elizabeth. Can’t I give you good things? “
“Yes, God. But why do You give so much?”
“Because I love you. “
“But why?”
“Because of Christ. “

In medicine, as in life, it is difficult to elicit gratitude from people if you are giving them what they don’t want without addressing their perceived needs.

I am not easy to love. Ease of love is determined by its origin, not its object. God loves because it is in His nature to do so. When we walk in step with the Spirit, His nature in us makes love in action the logical outcome of gratitude.

47. Saturday mornings, when you have nowhere to be until late morning and can drink coffee, read the Bible, workout, check your email, and do some chores all at a leisurely pace =]
26. Friends and family who pray like warriors.
Praying today for healing in the life of someone dear to my heart. God, use medicine. Use surgery. Be glorified. Make Your Name glorified in this situation.
There are no good times that come from our own hands. Only a good God, by whose hand we are given every good thing. Then our hands, when we stop using them to control, are free to praise.
It is hard to cultivate gratitude in people by giving them what they don’t want, while ignoring their needs.
Have I given you too little?
What struck me most was not the realization that I had much more than I deserved, but that I had been given much more than I was willing to accept. Certainly, I have been blessed in all ways: material, emotional, educational, relational and spiritual. But how many riches, intended for my heart, have remained unclaimed? How many hours of uninterrupted audience with Heaven have I forfeited? How many hearts could I have held, yet dismissed? How many moments of beauty, peace and calm have been overlooked by my preoccupied heart, and how many incomparable riches have I traded for distractions that perish with use?
Perhaps I have less than I have been given.
Which brings me to a strange reality in God’s economy, something He has shown me time and again:
We are the limiting factor in the equation of our potential. We will never have more than we accept.

Did you ever read something you wrote a long time ago and find yourself incredibly convicted?
I am so grateful for the good things God has done and continues to do in my life. For the first time, I feel perpetually at a loss for words.
Those are my pretty friends. Whom I plan to keep for far longer than the next 30 years.
